Chapter Report to State Council

March 2017:
We last met in December as a board to plan the coming year. We continue to be challenged to gain new members. and increase activity. Our next meeting will be Monday March 13th which will also be a board meeting at which we will discuss plans for meetings moving forward. We do have meeting dates and locations planned for the rest of the year, and we are planning on state council meeting attendance.

January 2017 Report: At our recent meeting on 12/12/16, Suz Roehl, a very experienced flight/trauma RN with Cal Star gave a very informative educational presentation on spinal cord injuries. We are planning for 2017, and have decided to help with our membership and meeting attendance that we will be raffling off a full registration fee for the National Conference with the requirement that nurses must attend all Chapter meetings by August to be eligible to win. We have also secured our 2017 officers and are looking forward to having Eric Conrad, RN, as our 2017 president.

At our most recent meeting in May, we had a guest speaker from the National Association of Mental Illness. This speaker not only was a paid employee of NAMI, but heavily involved as a family member. Her son has suffered from severe bipolar disorder since his late teens and she and her family have been bumped around from services to services throughout California. She became an outspoken advocate for mental health patients since that time and provides information on NAMI’s education program for providers, their peer support programs and mental health resource guides. Our members who work in Emergency Departments locally have seen an increase in volume of this patient population and the information was helpful. The speaker will be returning to do a larger presentation for other areas of the hospital than just the Emergency Department.
Our next meeting will be held at Dominican Hospital on 8/8/16 and will include an educational session on ECMO therapy (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). Several Monterey Bay ENA members will be attending the National Conference next month in Los Angeles.
